About FISH/Friends in Service to Humanity of Northwestern Connecticut:
Please make your donation here at www.fishnwct.org to support our work with the homeless and the hungry of the NWCT corner! We depend on the generosity of the community. We are grateful!!!!!!
The mission of FISH NWCT is to provide the most basic of human needs- food, shelter and hope. Since opening its doors in 1972, FISH has evolved into the largest emergency homeless shelter in the NWCT corner, providing families, individuals and veterans a safe and secure haven, as well as serving the residents of area communities as a food pantry. Our goal at the shelter is to provide a friendly, communal family setting to our neighbors in need. Our diversity is serving infants through seniors. The programs and social services at FISH NWCT are critical to some for their survival and well being. What makes FISH extra special is that we have two Case Managers overseeing the resources, medical and mental health needs, employment opportunities, and housing possibilities to lead to a homeless resident's independent living future. Amazing things happen for people under the roof at FISH NWCT!
During 2015 - 2016:
****The FISH NWCT Food Pantry had 541 families/or 2027 individuals enrolled. We distributed enough food items to create 115,109 meals. The need is great, and we do depend on the generosity of the community for food items and monetary donations to purchase food when our shelves are bare. Think about running your own food drive! We'll assist you with the "how".
****At the 35 bed FISH Homeless Shelter - a total of 11,695 bed nights were used. We had 112 Shelter residents during the year, representing: 79 adults, 15 children, and 18 veterans. With the help of our Case Managers and other provider agencies that assist and partner with us - 60 households/over 70 Shelter residents moved into permanent, affordable housing.
