CELEBRATed 50 YEARS in 2022! We are resilient!!The mission of FISH NWCT is to provide the most basic of human needs - food, shelter and hope. Since opening its doors in 1972, FISH has evolved into our region's largest emergency homeless shelter (35 beds) in the NWCT corner, providing families, individuals and veterans a safe and secure haven as they await permanent supportive housing; as well as serving area residents (over 1200 annually) as a food pantry, distributing food for nearly 110,000 meals this past year.
2023 - An eventful year...
A Tasteful Event Back after a 3-year hiatus, our "A Tasteful Event" was held on May 17, 2023, at the Five Points Art Center in Torrington. Tremendous appreciation to all who attended our gala and our sponsors, restaurants / caterers / bakers, and silent auction donors. We are grateful to our volunteers and to Jacque Williams Entertainment. Even with the wintery cold, yet sunny weather and winds, the event was a super success, with over 150 friends of FISH attending. View our 2023 "A Tasteful Event" photos - Click Here
Our feature by "Divine Renovation"
As many are aware - the new show "Divine Renovation" - hosted by Erik Estrada - filmed their second season as "Divine Renovation - Destination: New England" in NWCT during the month of May. FISH is a featured storyline! Besides interviewing staff, residents, and supporters at FISH, projects they managed here included: Flooring in the shelter kitchen, planting, painting porches, work on our ramp and rebuilding our back porch, a new pantry freezer, a bike rack and a 25-foot flag pole for our shelter veterans. *Our wonderful friends at O&G Industries generously took ten days to complete the projects. Vern Pesce at Iffland Lumber donated all the wood for the porch construction. The shelter residents were quite incredible as they pitched in "spic-and-spanning" FISH, and seemed to enjoy the excitement. The premiere of their visit was planned to show at The Warner Theatre in December 2023, but it has been postponed and the new date is still To Be Announced. The episodes are shown nationwide so we are thankful for the rare opportunity to spread awareness - displaying our rural area in affluent America with urgent need to service the homeless and food insecure - our neighbors in need.
